It goes slightly against one’s preconceptions, perhaps. A wedding needs to be planned at least two years ahead, surely? From that special down-on-bended-knee moment to saying ‘I do’ usually needs a good amount of breathing space, for all sorts of reasons. Not so! Say many a couple who have acted more spontaneously and tied the knot within months, if not weeks, of making the big decision. A last minute wedding really can be the way to go.
There are actually many practical and sometimes more emotional and personal reasons for organising a last minute wedding and getting married pretty much as soon as you have made the decision.
A last minute wedding can be far cheaper than weddings planned far in advance. Even the best venues and suppliers have gaps in their order books which they will discount to fill. This does not always mean putting up with a low-season wedding. And even so, is a wedding outside the summer months actually a compromise? We all know that the British weather is a lottery and when, with a bit of bad luck, July can be almost as chilly and miserable as any winter month, why pay the extra for a prime date? Save thousands with a winter or spring wedding and you can still jet off for a sunshine honeymoon.
Choosing an out-of-season date definitely gives you more flexibility with venues and other wedding details. The venue you really want and the caterers that everyone says are the absolute best are far more likely to be available. Travel and accommodation for your guests will be cheaper and easier to book, road and rail less busy and holidays from work easier to take out of the summer months and the brief seasonal peaks of Easter and Christmas.
Having a shorter planning time frame can really reduce overall stress, too. The traditional long lead-up comes with all sorts of downsides. Quick efficient decisions and a ‘let’s go for it’ mentality can say a lot about you as a couple too.
Your Wedding Day will be a wonderful day but for many couples the honeymoon is the focus of the start of their married lives together. One of the main benefits of having a last-minute wedding can be the extra budget you’ll have for the honeymoon and of course it is true that when you are out-of-season in the UK you can be very much in-season in a range of fabulous honeymoon destinations such as the Caribbean, Maldives or Australia.
